The King of Buganda hands over the first house under the Decent Living Campaign

 

The King of Buganda Kababka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi and HFHU’s Deputy National Director Laetitia Kiyingi handing over the Certificate of house completion to Abubaker and his wife Aidah.

The handover ceremony of the first house under the Decent Living Campaign to the beneficiary family of Mr Ssentongo Abubaker by the Kabaka of Buganda Ronald Muwenda Mutebi in Bulegga Village.

Mr Sentongo Abubaker is a 75 year old father of four and grandfather to 3 children living with his wife Mabaga Aidah. Abubaker was laying bricks for sell in order to support his family but after getting a back injury about a year ago which limits him from seating up, standing straight and walking well, he has been unable to continue with his work and the family had been depending on donations and support from the community.
The family of 9 lived in a one roomed house with no windows and ventilation divided into two by a curtain, roofed with rusted iron sheets, un-burnt brick wall and mud floor. The family had no toilet and bathroom and they had to depend on the facilities of the neighbours.

The family has been supported with a complete home that comes with a 3000 litre water tank, a ventilated improved pit latrine and shower stall. Abubaker is very grateful for the new home he has been

Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi, the King of the Kingdom of Buganda was the guest of honour for the day. Through the Prime Minister Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, the King was grateful for HFH Uganda’s focus on affordable housing because housing is a fundamental human right and also pledged the Kingdom’s continued support of the Campaign and emphasized on the need to have partnerships that benefit vulnerable people in Uganda.
